Aristophanes (c. 448-380 BC) .
The birthplace of Aristophanes is unknown, but he was likely educated in Athens. He went on to write forty plays, only eleven of which (including "The Frogs" and "The Birds") still survive. His plays received many honors during his lifetime, including a civic crown and a second performance of "The Frogs" - an honor then only reserved for highly esteemed plays. Despite his success, his highly satirical plays caused him to be prosecuted for libel on several occasions.
