Physics Class.

By
Mark Crider

Physics studies come in a variety of complex "things" that most don't know or even realize how they affect their lives and environment. Everything in our lives involves Physics or Chemistry, even our body functions if you can believe that. And there are those that have applied mathematical functions to them all, if you can believe that too.

The long black marble laboratory tables of our high school Chemistry/Physics lab saw us all seated opposing one another. We were in the middle of a chapter studying springs and compression of everything imaginable that would return to it's former configuration after being misshapen. There were coiled metal compression springs, leaf springs, different types of rubber and latex along with the complicated formulas associated with their functions. You can envision our mindset and focus.

I sat there mesmerized, enchanted you might say, staring, studying, and rolling the little piece of material around between two fingers while Mr. Crawl strolled through the class reading from the book as he told us about certain functions.

He noticed my complete lack of attention to him as he walked the aisles and eventually came up next to me and said, "What is that? Here lemma have it!" in a very remonstrative voice. I complied. He started looking at the very, very, smaller than a pea size piece.

"HMO, slightly off white in one area. HMO, and a reddish brown with black specks here and there. Kind of rubbery. Where did you get this sample?" he said.

"Out of my nose" I replied.
